Local? I think not.

I'm not a local. When people ask me if I'm from here (Steamboat), I say no, I'm from Indiana. They probably mean to ask if I live here, which I do. Of course, I will tell them that I live here. Being a local or not seems to be fairly relative in this place. Some would say you have to be born here to be a local, other would say having lived here x amount of time. Whatever, I wouldn't call myself a local, I'm a Hoosier if nothing else.

And I sure as hell would never refer to myself as a "loc". Today, I heard that for the first time, ever. On the mountain. Loc? I immediately thought of loco. Geez, local is only two syllables, does it really need to be shortened? I mean, psyops for psychological operations makes sense, that phrase is a mouthful. I really hope that the word loc doesn't become a trend, god forbid if The Local became The Loc.
